The Heart Of Fasting.

In 2013 The Lord told me to do a Daniel’s fast, forever. He said that the fasting would cause more of His power to flow through my life, and immediate power. He continued with, “It’s a small price to pay for more to come to know Me and love Me.”
For years I have fasted on and off, since then. At one point I fasted for three months straight, but found myself becoming anemic. Not only that, but I was not praying, and then my “fasting” became a diet.

I felt like a failure. But He quickly told me that He was poles with my heart’s motive, it least in the beginning.
No one has ever taught me how to fast. It’s almost like a “taboo” subject with Christians. Some say it’s not necessary. Some say it’s Old Testament law, and therefore outdated.

But how could I possibly ignore what I know He told me to do? I can’t and I won’t.
For several months I have desperately tried to find information of fasting and the fasting lifestyle. See, when The Lord told me to do the Daniel’s fast “forever”, I misunderstood. I thought He meant every day of my life! But the truth is, a Daniel’s fast is a twenty one day fast, not thirty. So basically, three weeks on the fast, one week off. That makes a huge difference for me.

I have found books on fasting, good books and good authors. But I still was left feeling like I didn’t know WHY. What was the purpose of fasting?

Sure, I can go through the mechanical motions of fasting, but what is the reason for it, what is the heart’s motive behind it? Why is it so important? And if it is so important, why aren’t many others doing it?

These questions have been bothering me for months, even after reading on the subject.
Then, last night when I went to bed, and I was almost asleep, The Holy Spirit explained it to me! (Why when I was almost asleep? Because there are no distractions around me, and none going on in my thoughts. I am completely shut down to every distraction, and because of that, I can hear Him much clearer!)
The Holy Spirit asked me if I remembered how it felt to be away form someone I loved for a period of time. He reminded me of how alone I felt, how desperately I wanted to hear their voice, to be with them, to be held by them, to hear their heart beat. We could have been fighting when they had to leave, but after a while it didn’t matter anymore, I just wanted to be with them!
Another example He reminded me of was when my Grandmother was dying. She was hours away, and honestly we didn’t have the money to make the drive out to her. It was to the point that she was not in her right mind, and the only thing she would say was, “I want to die” over, and over, and over again.

It broke my heart. I felt so helpless and wanted her suffering to stop. It got to the point that I couldn’t eat, I couldn’t sleep, and I just broke down crying in our kitchen. I loved my Grandma more than anyone in our Family, and my heart just ached for her. I was desperate to see her, to help her, but I couldn’t. Nothing else mattered, for the most part. She was on my mind and heart constantly.
Have you ever felt like that? Maybe it is for someone who died, and you miss them. You just want to hear their voice again, to see them again, to hold them again.

Maybe when they passed, or left, you could not eat or sleep. Nothing else mattered, not friends, family, activities, movies,… someone could have given you a million dollars and it wouldn’t have mattered.

The longing for that person is so much that it consumes you, day and night.
That is the heart of fasting.
To long for the very presence of Jesus so much that you cannot think of anything else, but Him and His love.

You can’t sleep, nothing else can satisfy or comfort you, you don’t even have a desire for food. You my even feel sad, and desperate for Him. All you want is to hear His voice, to see Him, to be in His presence. Only He can comfort you, and can satisfy you. He is what you long for, and Him alone, because you know His love for you and there is NOTHING on this earth that can compare to it.
Mark 2:18-20 AMP

“18 Now John’s disciples and the Pharisees were observing a fast; and [dome people’ came and asked Jesus, Why are John’s disciples and the disciples of the Pharisees fasting, but Your disciples are not doing so?

19 Jesus answered them, Can the wedding guests fast (abstain from food and drink) while the bridegroom is with them? As long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast.

20 But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them, and they will fast in that day.”
Jesus is the Bridegroom! (Please see Revelations 19:7-9) Jesus calls us away form all the distractions of the world to Himself, because He yearns over us with a jealous love!
Song Of Solomon (or Song Of Songs) 4:7-10 AMP

“7 [He exclaimed] O my love, how beautiful you are! There is no flaw in you!

8 Come away with me from Lebanon , my [promised] bride, come with me from Lebanon. Depart from the top of Amana, from the peak of Senir and Hremon, from the lions’ den, from the mountain of the leopards.

9 You have ravished my heart and given me courage, my sister, my [promised] bride’ you have ravished my heart and given me courage with one look from your eyes, with one jewel of your necklace.

10 How beautiful is your love, my sister, my [promised] bride! How much better is your love than wine! And the fragrance of your ointments than all spices!”
James 4:4-5 AMP (please read verses 1-10 to get the full picture)

“4 You [are like] unfaithful wives, [having illicit love affairs with the world and breaking your marriage vow to God]! Do you not know that being the world’s friend is being God’s enemy? So whoever chooses to be a friend of the world takes his stand as an enemy of God.

5 Or do you suppose that the Scripture is speaking to no purpose that says, The Spirit Whom He has caused to dwell in us yearns over us and He yearns for the Spirit [to be welcome] with a jealous love?”
Jesus was here on earth. He died to pay our ransom for our sins with His blood (Song Of Solomon 4:7 “…there is no flaw in you!” because we are washed in His blood).

When He rose from the dead, He ascended into heaven to sit at the right hand of The Father.

Even though He is in us, some days the distractions of life (the world), and all of it’s pleasures can pull us away from the presence of Jesus.

His voice becomes faint, seeing Him is a thing of the past. Then condemnation comes in, (from the enemy not Jesus! See Romans 8:1) and tries to separate you from Jesus even more!

The one thing that satan fears the most is if you KNKOW Jesus, through spending time with Him and communing (talking) with Him! The more you do, the more you can resist temptations, because you will know His love and know Him. That is a THREAT to satan!! If you know Jesus, satan can’t twist the truth about Jesus. He can’t tell you that a sickness is from God, or that God doesn’t love you, etc.

You really get to know someone when you live with them, or are in their presence constantly. No one, or any amount of gossip could ever get you to believe a lie about that person!

(See Philippians 3:3, 7-12. In fact verse 18-19 even talks about people who’s god is their belly! Don’t think our stomach’s can become a god to us? Try not eating ANY sugar, read the labels carefully, or caffein for three days straight! Your body will be screaming for sweets pretty quick!)
Psalm 91:1 AMP (please read all of Psalm 91)

1 “HE WHO dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall remain stable and fixed under the shadow of the Almighty [Whose power no foe can withstand].”
“Dwells” is to stay or remain.

“The secret place” is the presence of God. (See Psalm 31:20)
Fasting is not a punishment. It’s not a condemnation. It’s a heart’s longing for more of Jesus, His love, His voice, His presence! It’s a time for humbling ourselves before Him, admitting we can’t do it, and admitting our dependence upon Him alone.

It’s a time of repentance for sins, either ours and for our Nation! (Please read Joel 2)
Sin will cause a separation between Jesus and us. Just repent quickly, and keep close to Him! Let nothing come between you and Jesus! Seek His face as your vital need!
Psalm 27:4-5, 8 (please read all of Psalm 27)

“4 One thing I have asked of the Lord, that will I seek, inquire for, and ‘insistently] require: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord [in His presence] all the days of my life, to behold and gaze upon the beauty [the sweet attractiveness and the delightful loveliness] of the Lord and to meditate, consider, and inquire in His temple.

5 For in the days of trouble He will hide me in His shelter’ in the secret place of His tent will He hide me’ He will set me high upon a rock.

8 You have said, Seek My face [inquire for and require My presence as your vital need]. My heart says to You, Your face (Your presence), Lord, will I seek, inquire for, and require ‘of necessity and on the authority of Your Word].”
Sadly today’s Christians, especially here in America, are not desperate enough for Jesus, that is , until a crisis comes along.

In other parts of the world, people are being butchered because they love Jesus! If we had that here, I think more Christians would be truly desperate for Him. (Not that I want that to happen, by any means here in America or anywhere else in the world!)
The fact is that we have too many distractions. We have too many comforts. It’s ok to be uncomfortable, truly. Some UNDERGROUND Christians in China, worship God in caves for four to twelve hours, straight! Here in America, the Churches would almost be empty if worship went on for that long, because we have too many ‘other things to do’.
Fasting must be accompanied with prayer, praise and worship.

What is the purpose of your fast? To get closer to God? To pray for your Country? Is there a crisis? What ever the reason, find some Scriptures about your need, and make them the focus of your fast.
We must be desperate for Jesus, for The Father, for The Holy Spirit! It’s better to do it willingly now, than during a crisis.
Some issues can ONLY be resolved by prayer and fasting!

The scene is a little boy who was demon possessed. The father brought his son to Jesus’ disciples, but they could not drive it out. So the father brought him to Jesus.

(Please read Mark 9:17-29)

27 (AMP) “But Jesus took [a strong grip of] his hand and began lifting him up, and he stood.

28 And when He had gone indoors, His disciples asked Him privately, Why could not we drive it out?

29 And He replied to them, This kind cannot be driven out by anything but prayer and fasting.”
Fasting is a very important subject, with Jesus at the center of our focus of love!
Learn about His love for you! Please get a copy of “The Secret Of The Stairs” by Wade E. Taylor. It explains His love for you through The Song Of Solomon. It will change your life forever. 🙂
A good book about prayer, and how to pray: “Secrets Of A Prayer Warrior” by Derek Prince.
I hope this long, and important subject helps you. More so, I hope and pray it makes sense to you.

To change a Nation…

I don’t know about you, but things seem to be getting really out of ‘wack’. People seem to be more self centered, rude, unforgiving, demanding, rebellious and just plain unloving. Whether they are Christian or not, the lines are becoming blurred.

I have been reading Derek Prince’s book called, ” Shaping History Through Prayer And Fasting”, and if I may be so bold,… it IS what America and the world truly needs. No President can fix what’s going on. Only our humbling ourselves, repenting to God and making a decision to change our hearts can fix America. God will heal our land once His condotions are met (See Joel 2, Jobe 2).

I stumbled upon this video by Derek Prince on fasting. It’s a bit long, but it is quicker than reading the book. I would ask that you take the time out to watch it, and consider making the sacrifice of fasting for America and the World.

And just so you know, I would never ask you to do something that I am not willing to do myself.
